After a rather tough play, Pontotoc's Homer Shultz got a free kick in the 28th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Winford Arredondo got free with Jay Burkett in the 31st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 33rd minute, Reynaldo Sorenson ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Bret Rivera was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. 39 minutes into the match, Pontotoc's goal looked a bit too open when Ty Taylor came free, but Bret Rivera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jay Burkett showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from James Sykes in the 47th minute of the match. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Reynaldo Sorenson was extremely unlucky when he, in the 55th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Jay Burkett took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from DeMarcus Voss, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jamar Kemp charged in rather forcefully in the 96th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jamar Kemp the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 96 played minutes Pontotoc got a freekick which was hit by Jamar Kemp.
