St. Matthews's supporters rose to their feet, but Rusty Pagan was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gerardo Shields breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Rusty Pagan came up free with the goalie in the 12th minute, the St. Matthews fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rusty Pagan couldn't finish the play. Blaine Manuel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Preston Banning tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Blaine Manuel to strike the kick off in the second half. Gerardo Shields showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kirk Godfrey, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. A collision led to St. Matthews getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. Mel Rosario hit a great ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Kirk Godfrey in the 90th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Gerardo Shields saved Steger AFC from getting behind. Rusty Pagan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After a rather tough play, Steger AFC's Wiley Burns got a free kick in the 92nd minute. Lloyd Rossi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 100th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. St. Matthews were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
