After some fancy dribbling in the 24th minute, Rhett Hodge managed to get in a good position for a shot. Rayados's supporters rose to their feet, but Rhett Hodge was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. David Marshall breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 27 minutes into the game, Rhett Hodge cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. David Marshall was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Walton Roberts could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 31st minute of the match, but Jesse Tomlinson made a huge save. After some careless play in the Rayados defense, Walton Roberts kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jesse Tomlinson. The Rayados fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jesse Tomlinson should have stopped the shot. Rhett Hodge blasted a shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without David Marshall having to make a save. 46 minutes into the game, Rayados's Rhett Hodge nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. David Marshall made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Walton Roberts to make the kick off. Raul Russell might have been able to make a better finish in the 68th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Jesse Tomlinson. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Raul Russell ran back to his position shaking his head. If Walton Roberts had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
