Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) St. Matthews's Kirk Godfrey started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Sydney Wolfe's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Preston Banning read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 5th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rusty Pagan in the 12th minute of play forced Beach's goalkeeper Gavin Moreland to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gavin Moreland made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kirk Godfrey in the 14th minute of play. Jared Brownell kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. In the 22nd minute of the match Mel Rosario shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Gavin Moreland showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Sal Jolly's late challenge caught a St. Matthews's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Sal Jolly helped the player get up and apologised. Sal Jolly hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in Beach's zone, Rusty Pagan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gavin Moreland came out of the goal and Rusty Pagan tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Sal Jolly kicked well hit freekick during the 26th minute of the match. Gavin Moreland showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rusty Pagan in the 29th minute of the match. Kirk Godfrey sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Rusty Pagan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rusty Pagan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gavin Moreland having to interfere. If Sydney Wolfe had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Frankie Scruggs kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. In the 42nd minute, Percy Crenshaw left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Beach fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. After 47 minutes of play, St. Matthews's Rusty Pagan made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Gavin Moreland was left in no man's land by his defense there!

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Percy Crenshaw to make the kick off. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Kirk Godfrey in the 54th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Gavin Moreland saved Beach from getting behind. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 55th minute of the game. One of Beach:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of St. Matthews:s goal. With his leg Gavin Moreland managed to avoid a goal in the 61stth minute, when St. Matthews's Rusty Pagan fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Gavin Moreland showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kirk Godfrey, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Kirk Godfrey in the 63rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gavin Moreland prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a defensive mix-up in Beach's zone, Rusty Pagan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gavin Moreland came out of the goal and Rusty Pagan tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. St. Matthews's Kirk Godfrey got a good chance for a goal in the 68th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Rusty Pagan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gavin Moreland having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Terry Barnes during the 71st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to St. Matthews getting a freekick after 71 minutes play. Terry Barnes hit a great ball. Sydney Wolfe received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Preston Banning tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Renato Triplett sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kirk Godfrey in the 86th minute of play forced Beach's goalkeeper Gavin Moreland to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 91 minutes into the game, Mel Rosario was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. St. Matthews's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Beach the free kick. In a very dangerous position, a player in St. Matthews fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 90th minute. Penalty! Landon Dahlstrom shot the penalty kick right outside the post. Rusty Pagan's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Gavin Moreland firmly grabbed it by the left post. Kirk Godfrey could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 100th minute of the match, but Gavin Moreland made a huge save. The St. Matthews supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing St. Matthews would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
