The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Mark Willoughby to strike the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the match, St. Matthews's goal looked a bit too open when Dante Link came free, but Preston Banning reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Preston Banning took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mark Willoughby, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 80 played minutes, Athetic's Nathanial Harris shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Preston Banning came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Athetic reached it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dante Link in the 83rd minute of play forced St. Matthews's goalkeeper Preston Banning to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
