An unexpectedly hard shot by Freddy Townsend in the 18th minute of play forced West Valley City FC's goalkeeper Josh Elkins to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 20th minute, Alex Rooney managed to get in a good position for a shot. LA Galaxy FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Alex Rooney was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Josh Elkins breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 21 minutes into the game, Woody Rushing was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. West Valley City FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave LA Galaxy FC the free kick. In the 21st match minute, West Valley City FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Woody Rushing to maneuver through the defense. Josh Elkins showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Freddy Townsend, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. A collision led to West Valley City FC getting a freekick after 64 minutes play. Woody Rushing hit a great ball. Mark Gauthier charged in rather forcefully in the 67th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Mark Gauthier the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of LA Galaxy FC booed when West Valley City FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mark Gauthier didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Alex Rooney came up free with the goalie in the 72nd minute, the LA Galaxy FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alex Rooney couldn't finish the play.
