Kurtis Thomason fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Blaine Rafferty having to interfere. If Jose Galvan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 14 minutes into the match, FLORIDA FC's goal looked a bit too open when Jose Galvan came free, but Von Jewell reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Blaine Rafferty showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rick Lewis, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. When the match had gone on for 26 minutes, Rick Lewis put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Blaine Rafferty. Blaine Rafferty took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rick Lewis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rick Lewis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Blaine Rafferty tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Rick Lewis stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. When Damon Klein fell near the penalty area in the 54th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FLORIDA FC's protests and gave Damon Klein a yellow card for diving instead. In the 54th match minute, FLORIDA FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Damon Klein to maneuver through the defense. 56 minutes into the game, one of FLORIDA FC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Desmond Nickerson's late challenge caught a FLORIDA FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. In the 66th minute, Rick Lewis reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Blaine Rafferty. The goal made the score 1-2. After having played for 74 minutes, Jarvis Duke managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Hokie Nation's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jarvis Duke was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, FLORIDA FC's Florian Kerns got a free kick in the 75th minute. Damon Klein sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 87th minute, Jarvis Duke managed to get in a good position for a shot. Hokie Nation's supporters rose to their feet, but Jarvis Duke was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Von Jewell breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After some careless play in the FLORIDA FC defense, Wes Tackett kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Von Jewell. The FLORIDA FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Von Jewell should have stopped the shot. Blaine Rafferty came out of the goal in the 97th minute to try and stop a shot by FLORIDA FC's Rick Lewis. But to his dismay, Rick Lewis quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-3.
