Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 13 minutes into the match, Nolan Odell notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Pennington Gap's Santiago Willingham. Santiago Willingham was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Santiago Willingham took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nolan Odell, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Pennington Gap's Shaun Starkey got a good chance for a goal in the 18th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Brian Valentin fell near the penalty area in the 21st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Almafuerte's protests and gave Brian Valentin a yellow card for diving instead. Brian Valentin hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. Santiago Willingham showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nolan Odell, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. After 37 played minutes Pennington Gap got a freekick which was hit by Raphael Rosas. In the 43rd minute Shaun Starkey shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Garth Yeager saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Santiago Willingham made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nolan Odell in the 46th minute of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Shaun Starkey stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Tyron Hayes kicked well hit freekick during the 54th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by J.P. DeJesus in the 55th minute of play forced Pennington Gap's goalkeeper Santiago Willingham to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Shaun Starkey received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Garth Yeager tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some careless play in the Pennington Gap defense, J.P. DeJesus kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Santiago Willingham. The Pennington Gap fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Santiago Willingham should have stopped the shot. Nolan Odell might have been able to make a better finish in the 70th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Santiago Willingham. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nolan Odell ran back to his position shaking his head. Pennington Gap's Santiago Willingham played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by J.P. DeJesus in the 76th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 83rd minute, Nolan Odell managed to get in a good position for a shot. Almafuerte's supporters rose to their feet, but Nolan Odell was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Santiago Willingham breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After some fancy dribbling in the 86th minute, J.P. DeJesus managed to get in a good position for a shot.
