The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Hayden Honeycutt showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Maurice Gillespie, who was totally free with the ball in the 3rd minute. The supporters of Captain America booed when Rosa Melano was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Maurice Gillespie didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rosa Melano's Quentin Dupree got a good chance for a goal in the 13th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Junior Barnard had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Junior Barnard recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 19th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Hayden Honeycutt showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Junior Barnard in the 22nd minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Captain America's Ron Guidry got a free kick in the 24th minute. In the 26th minute Maurice Gillespie shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hayden Honeycutt saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Maurice Gillespie sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 30 played minutes Captain America got a freekick which was hit by Carson Nicholson. Rosa Melano's Stuart Walter got a good chance for a goal in the 31st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Maurice Gillespie fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hayden Honeycutt having to interfere. Hayden Honeycutt showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Maurice Gillespie, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. If Darryl Singletary had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alfred Coffman made an important save on a dangerous shot by Darryl Singletary in the 44th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Captain America's zone, Junior Barnard stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hayden Honeycutt came out of the goal and Junior Barnard tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Maurice Gillespie blasted a shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Hayden Honeycutt having to make a save. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Maurice Gillespie to strike the kick off in the second half. Junior Barnard struck a weak shot in the 54th minute. Hayden Honeycutt didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Rosa Melano. When the match clock showed 56 minutes, the score became 0-2 when Junior Barnard sped through Captain America's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Hayden Honeycutt. Captain America's Hayden Honeycutt played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Quentin Dupree in the 59th minute of play. Hayden Honeycutt took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Maurice Gillespie, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 66th minute, Johnny Knight hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 67th minute the ball was on its way in behind Captain America's goalkeeper Hayden Honeycutt, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Maurice Gillespie received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Hayden Honeycutt came out and tried to block the shot, but Maurice Gillespie slotted it home off the left post making it 0-3 in the 70th minute. Junior Barnard who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 76thth minute tested the skills of Hayden Honeycutt when he managed to save the team from getting behind. When Geoffrey Raymond came up free with the goalie in the 77th minute, the Captain America fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Geoffrey Raymond couldn't finish the play. Hayden Honeycutt showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Maurice Gillespie in the 82nd minute of the match. When Ron Guidry fell near the penalty area in the 82nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Captain America's protests and gave Ron Guidry a yellow card for diving instead. Hayden Honeycutt made an important save on a dangerous shot by Maurice Gillespie in the 87th minute. Junior Barnard sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the match was over Rosa Melano could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Captain America throughout the match.
