Carson Hankins was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Corey Uster recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 21st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Korey McNamara sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Starkville booed when Cayuga Heights AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Korey McNamara didn't get a good kick on the ball. William Dotson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Carson Hankins tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Korey McNamara sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Titus Peoples acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 44th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Curtis Wynn. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Korey McNamara to make the kick off. If Korey McNamara had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 55 minutes, Bradly Whitley managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Cayuga Heights AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bradly Whitley was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 58 minutes into the game, William Dotson recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Carson Hankins. William Dotson showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-2. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Toby Harrell during the 60th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 61st match minute, Cayuga Heights AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Toby Harrell to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Cayuga Heights AFC's zone, Mitchell Rutledge stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Carson Hankins came out of the goal and Mitchell Rutledge tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by William Dotson in the 65th minute of play forced Cayuga Heights AFC's goalkeeper Carson Hankins to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. William Dotson struck a weak shot in the 69th minute. Carson Hankins didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Starkville. 72 minutes into the game, Starkville's Mitchell Rutledge nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Carson Hankins made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. Titus Peoples stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Korey McNamara's shot from short distance in the 78th minute. The referee felt a red card was in order, 82 minutes into the game, when Zackary Cavazos put in a rough tackle. A collision led to Cayuga Heights AFC getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Zackary Cavazos hit a great ball. The long shot by Shaun Nance in the 84th minute really tested Carson Hankins's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Starkville's William Dotson got a good chance for a goal in the 85th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If William Dotson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Carson Hankins stood somewhat misplaced when Mitchell Rutledge came free in front of goal and shot 0-4 to the left of him in the 90 minute. 96 minutes into the match, Starkville's goal looked a bit too open when Logan Daly came free, but Titus Peoples reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Starkville eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
