Littorio Veneto's Stewart Blue played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marlon Vilter in the 20th minute of play. When Paolo Atarratze fell near the penalty area in the 23rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Gates's protests and gave Paolo Atarratze a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Littorio Veneto booed when Gates was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paolo Atarratze didn't get a good kick on the ball. Paolo Atarratze hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. Douglas DeJesus sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Mikael Häger was slow to take the kick. During this time Littorio Veneto's players had a chance to rest. Ramiro Orozco received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Stewart Blue tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Marlon Vilter who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 64thth minute tested the skills of Stewart Blue when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Mikael Häger took the ball and in the 69 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Freddy Roy. Freddy Roy dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. After some careless play in the Littorio Veneto defense, Douglas DeJesus kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Stewart Blue. The Littorio Veneto fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Stewart Blue should have stopped the shot. 88 minutes into the match, Littorio Veneto's goal looked a bit too open when Douglas DeJesus came free, but Stewart Blue reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. During the 95th minute of the match Paolo Atarratze completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Paolo Atarratze a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. The Littorio Veneto manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Gates to win.
