Hancock FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ricky May was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Alfred Lang showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from A.J. Murdock, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. Hancock FC's Ricky May got a good chance for a goal in the 33rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Mohammad Parish fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jorge Stafford having to interfere. When Gerard Lehman fell near the penalty area in the 35th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Colorado Springs F.C.'s protests and gave Gerard Lehman a yellow card for diving instead. Gerard Lehman hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. Jarrett Tolbert's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jorge Stafford read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 41st minute of play. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell A.J. Murdock to make the kick off.
