Mike Cahill fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bennett Russ having to interfere. Graig Avery took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Devin Higgins, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 18 minutes into the game, Ben Cornett cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Bennett Russ was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Devin Higgins in the 21st minute of play forced LHS SOCCER's goalkeeper Graig Avery to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Zackary Cunningham's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Graig Avery read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 23rd minute of play. After 55 minutes, Wilbur Bullock mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Carpinteria and the LHS SOCCER players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 55th match minute, Carpinteria was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Wilbur Bullock to maneuver through the defense. After some careless play in the Carpinteria defense, Salvador Russo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Bennett Russ. The Carpinteria fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Bennett Russ should have stopped the shot. If Riley Shoemaker had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. Ben Cornett ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 76th minute, Zackary Cunningham made a precise shot to the right of Graig Avery. LHS SOCCER's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-4. In the 79th minute Zackary Cunningham shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Graig Avery saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 83 minutes into the match, Neal Crane had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Graig Avery. LHS SOCCER's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Neal Crane was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-4. The audience thought a goal was coming when Salvador Russo got free with Bennett Russ in the 88th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 95th minute there was a penalty for LHS SOCCER. Ben Cornett stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Bennett Russ. 2-5. When the final whistle sounded LHS SOCCER left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Carpinteria.
