Rick Lane made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from John Goodson in the 26th minute of play. After 27 minutes, Raymundo Baird mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Port Aransas FC and the Discovery Bay players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Port Aransas FC's Raymundo Baird got a free kick in the 27th minute. Terrence Raines hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. Corey Childers might have been able to make a better finish in the 34th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Al Carson. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Corey Childers ran back to his position shaking his head. An unexpectedly hard shot by Raymundo Baird in the 36th minute of play forced Discovery Bay's goalkeeper Rick Lane to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Corey Childers in the 40th minute of play forced Port Aransas FC's goalkeeper Al Carson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Al Carson didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Corey Childers went, in the 40th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. John Goodson was the one to do the kick off. In the 53rd minute, Terrence Raines hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. John Goodson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by John Goodson during the 57th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Al Carson didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Discovery Bay. Rick Lane made an important save on a dangerous shot by Raymundo Baird in the 63rd minute. After 64 played minutes Discovery Bay got a freekick which was hit by Terrence Raines. When the match clock showed 69 minutes, the score became 1-2 when Raymundo Baird sped through Discovery Bay's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Rick Lane. With a little luck, Discovery Bay's Rick Lane got control of the ball when Raymundo Baird tried to sneak it across the goal line. The supporters of Discovery Bay booed when Port Aransas FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sid Brunson didn't get a good kick on the ball. John Goodson was shown his second yellow card after 83 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. But to his dismay, Darrel McCauley quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-2.
