Sam McIntyre showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Young King, who was totally free with the ball in the 4th minute. Detroit AFC's Jonas Siegel proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 14th minute of the match, managed to save Detroit AFC from getting a goal against them. After 15 played minutes Detroit AFC got a freekick which was hit by Jess Coyle. The audience was convinced that Cícero Amaral's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jonas Siegel was relentless in the 17th minute of the game. Jonas Siegel made a fantastic save in the 20th minute, when Gilson do Vale sent off a good shot on target. Sam McIntyre took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Stevie Peterson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the New York Red Bulls FC defense, Rui Marques kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Sam McIntyre. The New York Red Bulls FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Sam McIntyre should have stopped the shot. In the 27th minute, Rui Marques ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Sam McIntyre was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Stevie Peterson in the 29th minute of play forced New York Red Bulls FC's goalkeeper Sam McIntyre to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Detroit AFC's Young King got a free kick in the 34th minute. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

With a couple of smart ball manuevers Gilson do Vale in the 55th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jonas Siegel saved Detroit AFC from getting behind. Gilson do Vale recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 63rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. New York Red Bulls FC's Sam McIntyre proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 66th minute of the match, managed to save New York Red Bulls FC from getting a goal against them. Young King fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sam McIntyre having to interfere. 72 minutes into the game, Young King cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-3. Sam McIntyre was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After some fancy dribbling in the 74th minute, Rui Marques managed to get in a good position for a shot. Detroit AFC's supporters rose to their feet, but Rui Marques was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sam McIntyre breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The crowd rose to their feet as Stevie Peterson kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Sam McIntyre. That made the score 1-4 in the 78 minute of play. If Cícero Amaral had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marvin Beatty recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 83rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. New York Red Bulls FC's Gilson do Vale got a good chance for a goal in the 85th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 86th play minutes Cícero Amaral shot 2-4, a short shot which went by Jonas Siegel and just under the crossbar into goal. Rui Marques sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Detroit AFC walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
