The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Sam McIntyre showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. New York Red Bulls FC's Sam McIntyre played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Wallace Fields in the 20th minute of play. Ed Bradshaw in the 22ndth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Sam McIntyre, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Gilson do Vale struck a weak shot in the 28th minute. Bryan Bloom didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for New York Red Bulls FC. Sam McIntyre showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wallace Fields, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

In the 69th minute of the match, Cícero Amaral tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Bryan Bloom saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 73rd minute, Ed Bradshaw ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Sam McIntyre was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-2.
