The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Maurice Baca the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Poplar Tent protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Maurice Baca had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. Tyler Randolph placed the ball on the penalty spot and got himself ready to shoot. Post out! Lloyd Irvin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Salvador Goins, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. Quincy Barney's late challenge caught a Poplar Tent's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Quincy Barney helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Poplar Tent booed when San Diego Lightning was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Quincy Barney didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lloyd Irvin was a little too slow when Salvador Goins got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 33rd minute. The score was now 2-0. Salvador Goins had several of the San Diego Lightning's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 38 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 3-0 score and a disappointed Lloyd Irvin as he didn't even see the shot coming. In the 43rd minute, Brad Aldridge hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Salvador Goins was the one to do the kick off. The supporters of Poplar Tent booed when San Diego Lightning was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wilfredo Culver didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Salvador Goins came up free with the goalie in the 52nd minute, the Poplar Tent fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Salvador Goins couldn't finish the play. Lloyd Irvin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Salvador Goins in the 56th minute of play. If Antony Gallegos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Lloyd Irvin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Salvador Goins, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jaime Lockwood during the 59th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, San Diego Lightning's Jaime Lockwood got a free kick in the 59th minute. Lloyd Irvin showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Salvador Goins in the 61st minute of the match. Russ Dobbins's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Lloyd Irvin read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 62nd minute of play. Salvador Goins sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 65th minute Fernando Orozco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lloyd Irvin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. During the 66th minute of the match Jaime Lockwood completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Jaime Lockwood a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. After 66 played minutes San Diego Lightning got a freekick which was hit by Jaime Lockwood. 70 minutes into the match, San Diego Lightning's goal looked a bit too open when Salvador Goins came free, but Lloyd Irvin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Pablo Sweet made an important save on a dangerous shot by Sherwood McClain in the 79th minute. 80 minutes into the match, Salvador Goins notched a goal, 4-0, to the right of San Diego Lightning's Lloyd Irvin. Lloyd Irvin was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 86 minutes into the match, San Diego Lightning's goal looked a bit too open when Salvador Goins came free, but Lloyd Irvin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Poplar Tent walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
