The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ronny Cummins got free with Kasey Amos in the 4th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wilfredo Harden in the 5th minute of play forced INTER MIAMI's goalkeeper Monty Pepper to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Monty Pepper made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alfonzo Hudson in the 10th minute of play. When Bronson Cage fell near the penalty area in the 19th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Palos Verdes Estates's protests and gave Bronson Cage a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Palos Verdes Estates's Bronson Cage got a free kick in the 19th minute. Bronson Cage hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. Roland Fair was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 27th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. In the 31st minute of the match Stacey Crabtree shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Monty Pepper showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Palos Verdes Estates's Kasey Amos proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 33rd minute of the match, managed to save Palos Verdes Estates from getting a goal against them. After 34 played minutes INTER MIAMI got a freekick which was hit by Alvin Fields. Monty Pepper took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wilson Fairchild, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wilfredo Harden in the 39th minute of play forced INTER MIAMI's goalkeeper Monty Pepper to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 41st match minute, INTER MIAMI was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Toby Baxter to maneuver through the defense. Kasey Amos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Roscoe Hurd, who was totally free with the ball in the 44th minute. After 46 minutes of play, INTER MIAMI's Ronny Cummins made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Kasey Amos was left in no man's land by his defense there! The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ronny Cummins stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wilfredo Harden in the 55th minute of play forced INTER MIAMI's goalkeeper Monty Pepper to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, INTER MIAMI's Monty Pepper got control of the ball when Wilson Fairchild tried to sneak it across the goal line. 59 minutes into the match, Ronny Cummins had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Kasey Amos. Palos Verdes Estates's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ronny Cummins was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. Palos Verdes Estates's attentive Bronson Cage managed to snatch the ball when Toby Baxter made a throw-in in the 63rd minute of the game. Monty Pepper didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Wilson Fairchild went, in the 65th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score. The supporters of Palos Verdes Estates booed when INTER MIAMI was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vernon Jarrell didn't get a good kick on the ball. Monty Pepper stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Wilfredo Harden's shot from short distance in the 80th minute. Toby Baxter recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 81st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 84th minute, Roland Fair left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The INTER MIAMI fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-1. When Robby Fairchild fell near the penalty area in the 94th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored INTER MIAMI's protests and gave Robby Fairchild a yellow card for diving instead. In the 94th minute, Robby Fairchild hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. INTER MIAMI's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
