In the 20th minute, Vern Bowles left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Rebel Squids fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. In the 23rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Soldotna's goalkeeper Nick Ervin, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After having played for 25 minutes, Darin McAlpin managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Soldotna's supporters crossed their fingers, but Darin McAlpin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, Rebel Squids's Darin Gustafson got a free kick in the 27th minute. Dominique White's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Freddie Farris read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 29th minute of play. Vern Bowles received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Nick Ervin tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some careless play in the Soldotna defense, Darin Gustafson kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Nick Ervin. The Soldotna fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nick Ervin should have stopped the shot. Rebel Squids's Darin Gustafson got a good chance for a goal in the 41st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Vern Bowles had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Woodrow Carrier fell near the penalty area in the 43rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Soldotna's protests and gave Woodrow Carrier a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Soldotna getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Woodrow Carrier hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 44th minute, Darin Gustafson managed to get in a good position for a shot. Rebel Squids's supporters rose to their feet, but Darin Gustafson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nick Ervin breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-3 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Vern Bowles to make the kick off. Darin Gustafson who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 52ndth minute tested the skills of Nick Ervin when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Woodrow Carrier kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. Nick Ervin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vern Bowles in the 55th minute of play. Darin Gustafson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Freddie Farris made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dominique White in the 58th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Dominique White's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Freddie Farris was relentless in the 62nd minute of the game. In the 65th minute, Rebel Squids's Vern Bowles ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Nick Ervin. Nick Ervin yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-4. Darin Gustafson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. When the match had gone on for 82 minutes, Vern Bowles put it in 0-6 from a short distance just to the right of Nick Ervin. In the 88th minute Vern Bowles shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nick Ervin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the match was over Rebel Squids could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Soldotna throughout the match.
