The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some careless play in the Southside USA defense, Quinton Rivers kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jonah Bates. The Southside USA fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jonah Bates should have stopped the shot. 10 minutes into the game, Quinton Rivers cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-3. Jonah Bates was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After a defensive mix-up in Southside USA's zone, Quinton Rivers stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jonah Bates came out of the goal and Quinton Rivers tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Quinton Rivers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jonah Bates showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Len McAllister in the 15th minute of the match. In the 16th minute of the match Banfield FI got a corner. Southside USA's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Maurício Roriz ran over to the corner to take the kick. Banfield FI's Maurício Roriz was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Jonah Bates in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. After 20 minutes, Quinton Rivers made it 0-4 with a short kick to the right side. Southside USA's Jonah Bates tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Stan Craft in the 22nd minute of play forced Southside USA's goalkeeper Jonah Bates to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jonah Bates showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Leon Ledochowski, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. 47 minutes into the match, Leon Ledochowski had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jonah Bates. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Playo Moreno stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the match, Banfield FI's Quinton Rivers sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jonah Bates narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 54th minute, Banfield FI's Quinton Rivers dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-8. Len McAllister fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonah Bates having to interfere. With his leg Jonah Bates managed to avoid a goal in the 85thth minute, when Banfield FI's Quinton Rivers fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. After a rather tough play, Southside USA's Playo Moreno got a free kick in the 86th minute. A hard shot 88 in the game by Quinton Rivers from a close distance when the talented Jonah Bates managed to make a qualified save. Southside USA's players were relieved. After a defensive mix-up in Southside USA's zone, Leon Ledochowski stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. After 90 played minutes Southside USA got a freekick which was hit by Jordan Egan. With his leg Jonah Bates managed to avoid a goal in the 93rdth minute, when Banfield FI's Quinton Rivers fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Stan Craft's late challenge caught a Southside USA's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Stan Craft helped the player get up and apologised. In the 97th match minute, Banfield FI was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Stan Craft to maneuver through the defense. Banfield FI played a much better game than Southside USA and deserved their victory. The Southside USA players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
