Spectators: 8473 (Terracing: 6356, Seating: 1948, VIP seats: 169) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Shayne Garland kicked off to start the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Emmanuel Corley got free with J.C. Barker in the 9th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Wellford AFC's J.C. Barker proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 10th minute of the match, managed to save Wellford AFC from getting a goal against them. When the match had gone on for 13 minutes, Emmanuel Corley took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for J.C. Barker to make any attempt to save it. In the 19th minute of the match Marty Bassett shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Hal Mackey showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Thanks to some nice moves Emmanuel Corley could shoot a difficult shot in the 20th minute, which J.C. Barker however easily saved by the left post. 21 minutes into the match, Wellford AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Kerry McDonald came free, but J.C. Barker reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, Wellford AFC's J.C. Barker got control of the ball when Emmanuel Corley tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Wellford AFC's zone, Kerry McDonald stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. J.C. Barker came out of the goal and Kerry McDonald tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Thanks to some nice moves Emmanuel Corley could shoot a difficult shot in the 27th minute, which J.C. Barker however easily saved by the left post. J.C. Barker took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lionel Egan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Shayne Garland scored 2-1 in the 37th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Hal Mackey, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. J.C. Barker was out of position in the 43 minute of play, and Garry Conn capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Garry Conn really showed his touch with that goal: 3-1.

The wind increased when Emmanuel Corley made the kick off in the second half. When Lionel Egan fell near the penalty area in the 53rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Western Springs FC's protests and gave Lionel Egan a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Wellford AFC booed when Western Springs FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. In the 65th minute Garry Conn shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but J.C. Barker saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Garry Conn in the 67th minute of play forced Wellford AFC's goalkeeper J.C. Barker to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Wellford AFC's Walker Pugh got a free kick in the 68th minute. J.C. Barker showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Emmanuel Corley in the 69th minute of the match. 69 minutes into the game, Emmanuel Corley cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 5-1. J.C. Barker was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Wellford AFC's J.C. Barker played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Frankie Russell in the 72nd minute of play. Barker. J.C. Barker was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.
