Farid Mondragón showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Oscar Nordmark in the 16th minute of the match. 20 minutes into the match, New England Minas's Edgardo Silva sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Farid Mondragón narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Edgardo Silva sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 28th minute Edgardo Silva shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Farid Mondragón saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Sidney Forbes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. New England Minas's Jeremy Nicholas proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 33rd minute of the match, managed to save New England Minas from getting a goal against them. 37 minutes into the match, Edgardo Silva notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of C. A. Independiente's Farid Mondragón. Farid Mondragón was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Xu Yun Quan made a kick off. In the 60th minute of the match, Edgardo Silva tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Farid Mondragón saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Farid Mondragón showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Edgardo Silva in the 61st minute of the match. Farid Mondragón took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edgardo Silva, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 64th minute of the match New England Minas got a corner. C. A. Independiente's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Glen Conklin ran over to the corner to take the kick. New England Minas's Glen Conklin was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Farid Mondragón in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. New England Minas's Ye Gang Cheng was substituted for Lalo Rosas. After a rather tough play, New England Minas's Xiao Bang Kun got a free kick in the 67th minute. A collision led to New England Minas getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Zachery Church hit a great ball. 69 minutes into the game, António Nóbrega was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. New England Minas's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave C. A. Independiente the free kick. In the 70th minute there was a penalty for C. A. Independiente. Kerry Sellers stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Jeremy Nicholas. 1-2. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Edgardo Silva in the 77th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Farid Mondragón saved C. A. Independiente from getting behind. Edgardo Silva could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 79th minute of the match, but Farid Mondragón made a huge save. Farid Mondragón took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edgardo Silva, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Farid Mondragón showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Edgardo Silva in the 84th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in C. A. Independiente's zone, Edgardo Silva stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Farid Mondragón came out of the goal and Edgardo Silva tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. New England Minas's Arturo Sito was substituted for Tio Lio. When the match clock showed 95 minutes, the score became 1-3 when Edgardo Silva sped through C. A. Independiente's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Farid Mondragón. When the match was over New England Minas could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than C. A. Independiente throughout the match.
