The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Eudoxio Cordoba took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Osoitz Arganza, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 9 minutes, Aristides Calona managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Olimpia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Aristides Calona was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 17 minutes into the match, LA GALAXY's goal looked a bit too open when Zarbonin Cordovilla came free, but Gilabert Cuenia reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 20 minutes into the game, Xamo Zucunza cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Eudoxio Cordoba was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Orlando Angostina during the 23rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Olimpia booed when LA GALAXY was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Orlando Angostina didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 28th minute Osoitz Arganza shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eudoxio Cordoba saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Zarbonin Cordovilla received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Gilabert Cuenia tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Zarbonin Cordovilla blasted a shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Gilabert Cuenia having to make a save. When Osoitz Arganza came up free with the goalie in the 40th minute, the LA GALAXY fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Osoitz Arganza couldn't finish the play. After 42 minutes of play, Olimpia's Aristides Calona made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Gilabert Cuenia was left in no man's land by his defense there! An unexpectedly hard shot by Xamo Zucunza in the 47th minute of play forced Olimpia's goalkeeper Eudoxio Cordoba to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The wind increased when Zarbonin Cordovilla made the kick off in the second half. When Aristides Calona came up free with the goalie in the 52nd minute, the Olimpia fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Aristides Calona couldn't finish the play. Zarbonin Cordovilla fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gilabert Cuenia having to interfere. When Xilo Cazarez fell near the penalty area in the 61st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Olimpia's protests and gave Xilo Cazarez a yellow card for diving instead. Xilo Cazarez hit a great freekick 61 minutes into the match. Osoitz Arganza kicked a quick shot right in front of the goal in the 62ndth minute. Though ot was a great shot Olimpia's keeper Eudoxio Cordoba was sill able to block leaving the score board unchanged. Eudoxio Cordoba took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Xamo Zucunza, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. LA GALAXY's Osoitz Arganza got a good chance for a goal in the 67th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Aristides Calona fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gilabert Cuenia having to interfere. LA GALAXY's Orlando Angostina got his second yellow card of the match in the 70th minute. The referee ordered Orlando Angostina off the ground. LA GALAXY's Xamo Zucunza got a good chance for a goal in the 75th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Osoitz Arganza could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 77th minute of the match, but Eudoxio Cordoba made a huge save. Thanks to some nice moves Osoitz Arganza could shoot a difficult shot in the 78th minute, which Eudoxio Cordoba however easily saved by the left post. Osoitz Arganza received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Eudoxio Cordoba tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 81st minute, Alberto Granja hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 82nd minute, Gaitan Carces got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Zarbonin Cordovilla received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Gilabert Cuenia tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Osoitz Arganza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Osoitz Arganza struck a weak shot in the 92nd minute. Eudoxio Cordoba didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for LA GALAXY. Eudoxio Cordoba made a fantastic save in the 95th minute, when Osoitz Arganza sent off a good shot on target. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. LA GALAXY walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
