A collision led to Royal Caribbean getting a freekick after 10 minutes play. Odalis Carter hit a great ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Club Atlético Univ. UASD's Casimiro Villanueva slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Andy Espinoza. That made the score 1-0 after 13 minutes of play. In the 15th match minute, Club Atlético Univ. UASD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Omar Palma to maneuver through the defense. 20 minutes into the match, Club Atlético Univ. UASD's goal looked a bit too open when Eberardo Olivares came free, but Yánez Aldaeta reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Royal Caribbean booed when Club Atlético Univ. UASD was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. That made the score 2-1 after 37 minutes of play. 42 minutes had been played when some careless play by Royal Caribbean's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Casimiro Villanueva was slow to take the kick. During this time Club Atlético Univ. UASD's players had a chance to rest. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Royal Caribbean's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Club Atlético Univ. UASD the free kick. Casimiro Villanueva's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Andy Espinoza read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 84th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 88th minute, Norbert Gutiev managed to get in a good position for a shot. Club Atlético Univ.
