Delbert Ingram fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rich Lane having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lewis Chatigny in the 37th minute of play forced Manchester United's goalkeeper Rich Lane to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Belmont's Lewis Chatigny got a good chance for a goal in the 40th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After taking down the ball on Belmont's corner Charles Hess fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Rich Lane quite easily take care of the ball. Jacques Labbé took the ball and in the 47 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Arlen Patry. Arlen Patry dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Jacques Labbé made a kick off. Through an outstanding action, after 66 minutes, Arlen Patry successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. 69 minutes into the match, Belmont's goal looked a bit too open when Jacques Labbé came free, but Arlen Patry reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Lewis Chatigny came up free with the goalie in the 73rd minute, the Belmont fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lewis Chatigny couldn't finish the play. After a defensive mix-up in Manchester United's zone, Delbert Ingram stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rich Lane came out of the goal and Delbert Ingram tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience was convinced that Lewis Chatigny's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rich Lane was relentless in the 84th minute of the game. When Greg Newell fell near the penalty area in the 85th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Manchester United's protests and gave Greg Newell a yellow card for diving instead.
