The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 5 minutes into the game, Southey's Ollie Baron nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Aldo Pendleton made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. If Ollie Baron had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 7th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Léon Longoria might have been able to make a better finish in the 11th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Aldo Pendleton. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Léon Longoria ran back to his position shaking his head. Aldo Pendleton took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Léon Longoria, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 15 minutes, Ned McCarthy mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Wainwright AFC and the Southey players grew even worse after the yellow card. Ned McCarthy hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. In the 16th minute, Esmé Belcher sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Wainwright AFC's Aldo Pendleton didn't even have to move. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ollie Baron in the 18th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Aldo Pendleton prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Ollie Baron received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Aldo Pendleton tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ollie Baron sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After a defensive mix-up in Wainwright AFC's zone, Léon Longoria stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Aldo Pendleton came out of the goal and Léon Longoria tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 47th minute, Ollie Baron left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Southey fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ollie Baron stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Wainwright AFC booed when Southey was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Angel Pace didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ollie Baron was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 54th minute. Southey's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Léon Longoria recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 58th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Léon Longoria came up free with the goalie in the 60th minute, the Southey fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Léon Longoria couldn't finish the play. After 66 played minutes Wainwright AFC got a freekick which was hit by Ned McCarthy. Jourdain Cullen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Léon Longoria could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 71st minute of the match, but Aldo Pendleton made a huge save. Léon Longoria's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Aldo Pendleton firmly grabbed it by the left post. If Léon Longoria had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 78th minute, Southey's Ollie Baron dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-3. With an all-out effort, Southey's Aldo Pendleton threw himself towards the right post 84 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Ollie Baron, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. After a rather tough play, Wainwright AFC's Amos Gant got a free kick in the 84th minute.
