But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rickie Crisp couldn't finish the play. 7 minutes into the game, Rickie Crisp was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Harrowby's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Newark AFC the free kick. In the 7th match minute, Harrowby was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rickie Crisp to maneuver through the defense. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Buford Davidson during the 9th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In a very dangerous position, a player in Harrowby fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 8th minute. Penalty! Calvin Presley had in the 10thth minute some difficulties stopping Wilburn Marcus's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. After 15 played minutes, Newark AFC's Wilburn Marcus shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Calvin Presley came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Newark AFC reached it. The supporters of Newark AFC booed when Harrowby was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rickie Crisp didn't get a good kick on the ball. Newark AFC's defense didn't have a chance, in the 21st minute, when Rickie Crisp scored to the left of an out of position Palmer Brooks, making the score, 1-0. Calvin Presley took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lamar Boggs, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Howard Mayberry had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 30 minutes into the match, Harrowby's goal looked a bit too open when Lamar Boggs came free, but Calvin Presley reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Howard Mayberry in the 32nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Calvin Presley saved Harrowby from getting behind. After some fancy dribbling in the 46th minute, Lamar Boggs managed to get in a good position for a shot. Newark AFC's supporters rose to their feet, but Lamar Boggs was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Calvin Presley breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 49 minutes into the match, Lamar Boggs notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Harrowby's Calvin Presley. Calvin Presley was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Delmar Vinson to strike the kick off in the second half. After 55 played minutes Newark AFC got a freekick which was hit by Wilburn Marcus. Newark AFC's Palmer Brooks played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Buford Davidson in the 56th minute of play. Calvin Presley made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lamar Boggs in the 60th minute. After 86 minutes of play, Newark AFC's Lamar Boggs made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Calvin Presley was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 89th minute, Joseph Gates hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Joseph Gates kicked well hit freekick during the 90th minute of the match. In the 96th minute the ball was on its way in behind Newark AFC's goalkeeper Palmer Brooks, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 99th minute, Harrowby's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Lamar Boggs fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Newark AFC eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
