Whitworth AFC's Gene Shepard got a good chance for a goal in the 12th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Alfred's Brendon Chartré shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 18th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Burt Benoit but with some difficulty. Willie Velez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Thibault Draper in the 19th minute of play. Brooks Marceau kicked well hit freekick during the 20th minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Thibault Draper in the 21st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Willie Velez saved Alfred from getting behind. Thibault Draper sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Alfred booed when Whitworth AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rodrick Foley didn't get a good kick on the ball. Burt Benoit was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 35th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Brendon Chartré. Gene Shepard fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Willie Velez having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Leslie Trejo in the 40th minute of play forced Whitworth AFC's goalkeeper Burt Benoit to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Willard Dudley had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Thibault Draper made a kick off. Gene Shepard sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 58th minute, Thibault Draper managed to get in a good position for a shot. Whitworth AFC's supporters rose to their feet, but Thibault Draper was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Willie Velez breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 66 minutes into the game, Alfred's Leslie Trejo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Burt Benoit made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. Gene Shepard sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out.
