Kirriemuir's Roberto Murphy played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roland Means in the 11th minute of play. Roland Means's late challenge caught a Kirriemuir's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Roland Means helped the player get up and apologised. 15 minutes into the match, Dominick Shelton notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Hartell's Danny Horner. Danny Horner was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After some fancy dribbling in the 18th minute, Jimmy Thomas managed to get in a good position for a shot. Kirriemuir's supporters rose to their feet, but Jimmy Thomas was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Danny Horner breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a rather tough play, Hartell's Godelieve Hawthorne got a free kick in the 19th minute. Roberto Murphy showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Salvatore Minton, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. Dominick Shelton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Danny Horner having to interfere. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The wind increased when Jimmy Thomas made the kick off in the second half. Jimmy Thomas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 54th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Dominick Shelton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 57thth minute of the game Dominick Shelton who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Hartell's Danny Horner was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The supporters of Kirriemuir booed when Hartell was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Roland Means didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Hartell's zone, Jimmy Thomas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Danny Horner came out of the goal and Jimmy Thomas tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Kirriemuir were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing Hartell to leave the ground with a draw.
