Léonce Sawyer charged in rather forcefully in the 10th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Léonce Sawyer the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The referee ignored Whelan's protests and gave Nicolas McCullough a yellow card for diving instead. Gerard Thomas made an important save on a dangerous shot by Kory Cuevas in the 19th minute. Kory Cuevas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kennith Moore in the 23rd minute of play forced Whelan's goalkeeper Gerard Thomas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Kennith Moore received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Gerard Thomas tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gerard Thomas made a fantastic save in the 30th minute, when Kory Cuevas sent off a good shot on target. 35 minutes into the game, Whelan's Orval Montoya nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Sanford Toney made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. If Orval Montoya had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sanford Toney showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jody Faulkner in the 45th minute of the match. Dirk Rossi kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Jody Faulkner to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Sterling Peachey made a precise shot to the right of Gerard Thomas. Whelan's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-1. Kory Cuevas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Orval Montoya sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gerard Thomas took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kennith Moore, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of McMasterville FC booed when Whelan was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 81 match minutes in a wonderful position. Geraldo Christian didn't get a good kick on the ball. Whelan's Orval Montoya got a good chance for a goal in the 90th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 91st minute, Corentin Sumner hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 94th minute of the match Whelan got a corner. McMasterville FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Léonce Sawyer ran over to the corner to take the kick. Orval Montoya could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 95th minute of the match, but Sanford Toney made a huge save. Whelan's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
