Floyd Gage's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Coy Major read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 10th minute of play. In the 13th minute Truman Crandall shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Harvey Rosenberg saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Coy Major showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Chauncey Dubé, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. When the match had gone on for 29 minutes, Honoré Morin put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Harvey Rosenberg. Coy Major didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Floyd Gage went, in the 47th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Chauncey Dubé was the one to do the kick off. Floyd Gage received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Coy Major tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Chauncey Dubé in the 66th minute of play forced Sackville's goalkeeper Coy Major to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 71 minutes into the match, Sackville's goal looked a bit too open when Floyd Gage came free, but Coy Major reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee ignored Stoneham's protests and gave Carroll Payne a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Stoneham getting a freekick after 88 minutes play. Carroll Payne hit a great ball. Harvey Rosenberg took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Brad Clifford, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 92nd match minute, Sackville was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Honoré Morin to maneuver through the defense. Floyd Gage fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Coy Major having to interfere.
