The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Santiago Gilliam received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 8th minute. The tension between the McGillivray AFC and the Neptune players grew even worse after the yellow card. After some fancy dribbling in the 14th minute, Brock Kearney managed to get in a good position for a shot. Neptune's supporters rose to their feet, but Brock Kearney was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Clark Blalock breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Santiago Gilliam might have been able to make a better finish in the 16th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Randell Coulombe. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Santiago Gilliam ran back to his position shaking his head. After 17 minutes of play, McGillivray AFC's Santiago Gilliam made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Randell Coulombe was left in no man's land by his defense there! Clark Blalock took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lucien Perdue, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Santiago Gilliam could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 24th minute of the match, but Randell Coulombe made a huge save. The supporters of McGillivray AFC booed when Neptune was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Delmer Barker didn't get a good kick on the ball. Neptune's Brock Kearney got a good chance for a goal in the 29th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a little luck, Neptune's Randell Coulombe got control of the ball when Santiago Gilliam tried to sneak it across the goal line. Santiago Gilliam fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Randell Coulombe having to interfere. If Jere Kohler had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

With his leg Clark Blalock managed to avoid a goal in the 51stth minute, when Neptune's Brock Kearney fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Neptune's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave McGillivray AFC the free kick. A collision led to Neptune getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Lucien Perdue hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Neptune's zone, Jere Kohler stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Randell Coulombe came out of the goal and Jere Kohler tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 86 played minutes Neptune got a freekick which was hit by Lucien Perdue. The audience thought a goal was coming when Brock Kearney got free with Clark Blalock in the 95th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
