Rod Phillips got in the 22nd a clear chance and fired away a hard shot against goal, but Jonathan Neely handled the situation perfectly and made a save by the crossbar. 23 minutes into the match, Ashern AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Hugo Ratliff came free, but Patrick Thurman reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 27 minutes, Cole Barnard managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ashern AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cole Barnard was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ashern AFC's Rod Phillips got a good chance for a goal in the 31st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Jonathan Neely stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Cole Barnard's shot from short distance in the 32nd minute. Jonathan Neely took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cole Barnard, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 41 minutes into the match, Ashern AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Hugo Ratliff came free, but Patrick Thurman reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Toussaint Esquivel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Patrick Thurman tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Altona AFC's zone, Rod Phillips stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jonathan Neely came out of the goal and Rod Phillips tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

Fritz Reilly walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. 62 minutes into the match, Altona AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Cole Barnard came free, but Jonathan Neely reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rod Phillips recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 64th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of Ashern AFC booed when Altona AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 65 match minutes in a wonderful position. Loic Maloney didn't get a good kick on the ball. Cole Barnard sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Altona AFC's Jonathan Neely played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cole Barnard in the 69th minute of play. If Cole Barnard had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 73rd minute, Bernard Hope hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Rod Phillips had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 90 minutes, Rod Phillips managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ashern AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rod Phillips was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
