Arnulfo Coffey made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fernando Foreman in the 6th minute of play. The corner led Merbleue's Edwardo Guilmette to fire away a dangerous shot which Svatomír Kaiser despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. In the 14th match minute, Athletic Club Academical was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rickey Boston to maneuver through the defense. When Dannie Sylvester came up free with the goalie in the 16th minute, the Athletic Club Academical fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dannie Sylvester couldn't finish the play. After 19 played minutes Merbleue got a freekick which was hit by Tyron Blalock. The supporters of Athletic Club Academical booed when Merbleue was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tyron Blalock didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dannie Sylvester received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Arnulfo Coffey tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Lindsay McLeod fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Svatomír Kaiser having to interfere. Svatomír Kaiser showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zane Robertson in the 31st minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lindsay McLeod in the 34th minute of play forced Athletic Club Academical's goalkeeper Svatomír Kaiser to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 36 minutes into the match, Darell Perry had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Arnulfo Coffey. Merbleue's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Darell Perry was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. In the 39th minute, Merbleue's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Darell Perry fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Athletic Club Academical's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dannie Sylvester was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Merbleue's zone, Rickey Boston stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Arnulfo Coffey came out of the goal and Rickey Boston tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 66th minute, Tyron Blalock hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 68th minute of the match Dannie Sylvester sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Arnulfo Coffey skillfully saved the ball. Arnulfo Coffey showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dannie Sylvester in the 70th minute of the match. Darell Perry sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Merbleue's Arnulfo Coffey played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rickey Boston in the 95th minute of play. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Athletic Club Academical fully deserved thier win.
