The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After a rather tough play, Athabasca AFC's Tomas Bédard got a free kick in the 2nd minute. 9 minutes into the match, Athabasca AFC's goalkeeper Virgil Wagner had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Elroy Sauriol. Delmar Hunt's late challenge caught a Athabasca AFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Delmar Hunt helped the player get up and apologised. In the 11th match minute, Venice was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Delmar Hunt to maneuver through the defense. Mack Putnam charged in rather forcefully in the 15th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Mack Putnam the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Trent Rodrigues in the 17th minute of play forced Athabasca AFC's goalkeeper Virgil Wagner to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Athabasca AFC's Virgil Wagner proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 18th minute of the match, managed to save Athabasca AFC from getting a goal against them. After some careless play in the Venice defense, Lyndon Cardona kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Rainier Drouin. The Venice fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Rainier Drouin should have stopped the shot. Boyd Desrosiers fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Virgil Wagner having to interfere. Athabasca AFC's Hershel Hoyt got a good chance for a goal in the 28th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 30th minute Lyndon Cardona shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rainier Drouin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. During the 32nd minute of the match Mack Putnam completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Mack Putnam a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Mack Putnam hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. Tomas Bédard kicked well hit freekick during the 34th minute of the match. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Trent Rodrigues made a kick off. If Hershel Hoyt had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Virgil Wagner made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Elroy Sauriol in the 59th minute of play. Virgil Wagner took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Elroy Sauriol, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 69 minutes into the match, Delmar Hunt notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Athabasca AFC's Virgil Wagner. Virgil Wagner was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 75 minutes into the match, Athabasca AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Elroy Sauriol came free, but Virgil Wagner reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Venice's Elroy Sauriol in the 83rd minute got a chance for a shot 83rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Athabasca AFC's goalie prevented a goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Hershel Hoyt got free with Rainier Drouin in the 88th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 91 minutes into the match, Athabasca AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Elroy Sauriol came free, but Virgil Wagner reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
