Wiarton's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nelson Cunningham was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 86 minutes into the match, Wiarton's goalkeeper Fletcher Tillman had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Marion Woody. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 88th minute of the game. One of Wiarton:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of MacKay AFC:s goal. The supporters of Wiarton booed when MacKay AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 93 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ian Cantrell didn't get a good kick on the ball. MacKay AFC were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Wiarton's much stronger midfield.
