Osvaldo Neiva made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wágner Andrade in the 6th minute of play. Wágner Andrade's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Osvaldo Neiva read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 7th minute of play. The supporters of Sporting Cristal booed when Manchester United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fliz Abadia didn't get a good kick on the ball. 10 minutes into the match, Wágner Andrade notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Manchester United's Osvaldo Neiva. Osvaldo Neiva was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After a rather tough play, Sporting Cristal's Louis Zantke got a free kick in the 14th minute. 17 minutes into the match, Sporting Cristal's Wágner Andrade sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Osvaldo Neiva narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Chago Abellaneda kicked well hit freekick during the 25th minute of the match. 27 minutes had been played when some careless play by Manchester United's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Miguel Abadia was slow to take the kick. During this time Sporting Cristal's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Miguel Abadia almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Manchester United's Osvaldo Neiva did a great save. When Sporting Cristal's Wágner Andrade in the 40th minute got a chance for a shot 40th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Wágner Andrade stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 78th minute, Sporting Cristal's Wágner Andrade ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Osvaldo Neiva. Osvaldo Neiva yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-5. After 95 played minutes Sporting Cristal got a freekick which was hit by Louis Zantke. In the 96th match minute, Manchester United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Chumo Abechuco to maneuver through the defense. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Sporting Cristal had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
