Javiar Varioz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Llorienzo Teijeiro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Peñarol booed when Piedritas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 6 match minutes in a wonderful position. Edson Herrada didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 7 minutes, Llorienzo Teijeiro made it 0-1 with a short kick to the right side. Piedritas's Javiar Varioz tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Piedritas's Javiar Varioz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Llorienzo Teijeiro in the 17th minute of play. 20 minutes into the game, Piedritas's Olayo Belon nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Hector Tascon made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. Javiar Varioz stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Pancho Voces's shot from short distance in the 24th minute. In the 31st minute, Llorienzo Teijeiro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Olayo Belon received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Hector Tascon tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Peñarol's Modestio Molner suffered a sprained foot after 38 minutes and couldn't finish the game. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Luciano Vialpando during the 38th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Olayo Belon might have been able to make a better finish in the 41st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Hector Tascon. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Olayo Belon ran back to his position shaking his head. Olayo Belon fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hector Tascon having to interfere. Af the end of the first half the score was 3-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Peñarol's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Piedritas the free kick. In the 79th match minute, Peñarol was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Pancho Voces to maneuver through the defense. Montez Velez sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Piedritas's Luciano Vialpando got a free kick in the 85th minute. In the 88th minute Montez Velez shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hector Tascon saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 90th minute, Olayo Belon managed to get in a good position for a shot. Piedritas's supporters rose to their feet, but Olayo Belon was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Hector Tascon breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 92 minutes into the game, Montez Velez cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 5-1. Hector Tascon was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Piedritas fans cheered their team off the field, for while Peñarol had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
