Melquiades Veraza hit a great ball. 36 minutes into the match, Jimenez's goalkeeper Jeraldo Escajadillo had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Xusto Tornero. 39 minutes into the match, Xusto Tornero notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Jimenez's Jeraldo Escajadillo. Jeraldo Escajadillo was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 44 minutes into the match, Jimenez's goal looked a bit too open when Formerio Fariñas came free, but Jeraldo Escajadillo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, Jimenez's Gaizka Madrazo got a free kick in the 45th minute. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Bernabel Cobos to make the kick off. Formerio Fariñas's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jeraldo Escajadillo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 51st minute of play. If Bernabel Cobos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Xusto Tornero received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Jeraldo Escajadillo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Quentin Canal made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bernabel Cobos in the 58th minute of play. Quentin Canal showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bernabel Cobos, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. Bernabel Cobos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Xusto Tornero recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 69th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Xusto Tornero had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bernabel Cobos couldn't finish the play.
