Montel Arango started the match with the kick off. Peñarol FC's Bitxintxo Tubia played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Emiliano Barcena in the 9th minute of play. The supporters of Salta AFC booed when Peñarol FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Salvino Sator didn't get a good kick on the ball. Paio Alberdi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Montel Arango, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gaudencio Abraldez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paio Alberdi having to interfere. After having played for 17 minutes, Gaizkine Secadura managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Salta AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gaizkine Secadura was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Bitxintxo Tubia showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Amato Pelaz, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. 21 minutes into the match, Peñarol FC's goal looked a bit too open when Emiliano Barcena came free, but Bitxintxo Tubia reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Paio Alberdi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Montel Arango in the 25th minute of play. Montel Arango sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Bitxintxo Tubia stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Emiliano Barcena's shot from short distance in the 37th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Peñarol FC's zone, Emiliano Barcena stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Bitxintxo Tubia came out of the goal and Emiliano Barcena tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 45th minute the ball was on its way in behind Peñarol FC's goalkeeper Bitxintxo Tubia, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The wind increased when Gaizkine Secadura made the kick off in the second half. Peñarol FC's Montel Arango got a good chance for a goal in the 55th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 57th minute Gaudencio Abraldez shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paio Alberdi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A hard shot 61 in the game by Emiliano Barcena from a close distance when the talented Bitxintxo Tubia managed to make a qualified save. Peñarol FC's players were relieved. Bitxintxo Tubia showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gaizkine Secadura, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. Paio Alberdi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gaudencio Abraldez in the 65th minute of play. Gaizkine Secadura might have been able to make a better finish in the 71st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Bitxintxo Tubia. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gaizkine Secadura ran back to his position shaking his head. Emiliano Barcena blasted a shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Bitxintxo Tubia having to make a save. In the 78th minute Gaizkine Secadura shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bitxintxo Tubia saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Gaudencio Abraldez received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 81st minute. Paio Alberdi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gaizkine Secadura sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Emiliano Barcenas short, quick shot in the 95thth minute got Bitxintxo Tubia to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Emiliano Barcena received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 98th minute. Bitxintxo Tubia tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
