Beltran Larrave in the 7thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Elpidio Izana, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Beltran Larrave's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Elpidio Izana read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 14th minute of play. Agostinho Sanes struck a weak shot in the 20th minute. Elpidio Izana didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Salto. After 40 played minutes Salto got a freekick which was hit by Tiago Camats. Blasi Barrillos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Txeru Alzaga in the 42nd minute of play. Elpidio Izana made a fantastic save in the 45th minute, when Beltran Larrave sent off a good shot on target. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Beltran Larrave made the kick off in the second half. When Mauro Freigido fell near the penalty area in the 51st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick.
