Hitz Cruz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nisio Manjon having to interfere. In the 17th minute, Oroitz Medel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Peñarol's defense didn't have a chance, in the 18th minute, when Pes Cobos scored to the left of an out of position Zabal Diana, making the score, 1-0. 24 minutes into the match, Constitucion's goal looked a bit too open when Cordarius Chavarri came free, but Nisio Manjon reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Constitucion's zone, Hitz Cruz stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nisio Manjon came out of the goal and Hitz Cruz tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Pes Cobos made the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Peñarol's goalkeeper Zabal Diana, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Bahiano Maltrana during the 63rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Constitucion booed when Peñarol was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 64 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bahiano Maltrana didn't get a good kick on the ball.
