Ceferino Orellana walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. The audience was convinced that Rogelio Angeloni's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ernesto Daniel Heyboer was relentless in the 10th minute of the game. If Honorato Painevilu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpected shot in the 13th minute by Honorato Painevilu got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Ernesto Daniel Heyboer showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rogelio Angeloni in the 15th minute of the match. After 18 minutes, Saturnín Cabanillas mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Municipal Mejillones and the Soncor players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 40th minute Rogelio Angeloni shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ernesto Daniel Heyboer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Taurino Marfil charged in rather forcefully in the 45th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down.
