But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nauzet Manieu couldn't finish the play. Jorge Pena stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ferrando Toledo's shot from short distance in the 14th minute. Ferrando Toledo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 16th minute. Jorge Pena tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Enrico Kowalesko stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Paco Bombal's shot from short distance in the 19th minute. 20 minutes into the match, Niquela's goal looked a bit too open when Nauzet Manieu came free, but Jorge Pena reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ferrando Toledo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 37th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Nauzet Manieu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ferrando Toledo in the 41st minute of play forced Niquela's goalkeeper Jorge Pena to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Ferrando Toledo to strike the kick off in the second half. When Elazar Ceron fell near the penalty area in the 52nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Niquela's protests and gave Elazar Ceron a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Mariposas AFC booed when Niquela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Elazar Ceron didn't get a good kick on the ball. Carlos Alberto Massú's late challenge caught a Mariposas AFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Asier Guajardo, 57 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Nauzet Manieu who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 61stth minute tested the skills of Jorge Pena when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Ferrando Toledo came up free with the goalie in the 66th minute, the Mariposas AFC fans jumped to their feet. The audience thought a goal was coming when Nauzet Manieu got free with Jorge Pena in the 91st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 94th minute, Mariposas AFC's Nauzet Manieu dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-1.
