When Cartago FC's Inocente Tirapegui in 17 game minutes managed to cut through with the ball in front of the goal, only having to shoot. Hugo Brito guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. The audience was convinced that Elodio Herzl's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Hugo Brito was relentless in the 18th minute of the game. After a defensive mix-up in Club O´Higgins's zone, Elodio Herzl stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hugo Brito came out of the goal and Elodio Herzl tried to chip the ball over his head. After a rather tough play, Cartago FC's Elodio Herzl got a free kick in the 27th minute. With an all-out effort, Club O´Higgins's Paco Esparza threw himself towards the right post 33 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Sarracino Bischhoffshausen, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. After some fancy dribbling in the 36th minute, Pacífico Bourchier managed to get in a good position for a shot. Club O´Higgins's supporters rose to their feet, but Pacífico Bourchier was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post.
