Cartago FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Inocente Tirapegui was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Elodio Herzl could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 18th minute of the match, but Julio Azúa made a huge save. Inocente Tirapegui sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience thought a goal was coming when Elodio Herzl got free with Julio Azúa in the 22nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Bernardo León hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. In the 26th minute, Eriberto Painemal hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Monterei booed when Cartago FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Peio Neil didn't get a good kick on the ball. Quintán Pasenau took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 32nd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Paco Esparza. Cartago FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 35th minute Ysidro Farias shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paco Esparza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After the first half Monterei were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Cartago FC's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Ysidro Farias 58 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 0-3. Elodio Herzl fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Azúa having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 71st minute, Elodio Herzl managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cartago FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Elodio Herzl was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Azúa breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
