After some fancy dribbling in the 40th minute, Bonifacio Walton managed to get in a good position for a shot. Arturo Fernández Vial's supporters rose to their feet, but Bonifacio Walton was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Moncho Mazeira breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 43rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Zuniga AFC's goalkeeper Moncho Mazeira, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 45 minutes into the match, Zuniga AFC's goalkeeper Moncho Mazeira had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Bonifacio Walton. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tamariz Ulloa to make the kick off. Moncho Mazeira took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gaston Cruchaga, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Bonifacio Walton in the 56th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Moncho Mazeira saved Zuniga AFC from getting behind. Zuniga AFC's Xulián Bardesi got a good chance for a goal in the 59th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Gaston Cruchaga fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Moncho Mazeira having to interfere. Moncho Mazeira showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gaston Cruchaga in the 67th minute of the match. In the 69th minute Gaston Cruchaga shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Moncho Mazeira saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 75th minute, Teodosio Carte hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Gaston Cruchaga received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 76th minute. Moncho Mazeira showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gaston Cruchaga, who was totally free with the ball in the 84th minute. Apolo Botero's late challenge caught a Arturo Fernández Vial's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
