With a left leg Saturnino Birila saved Universidad Catolica from getting behind. 44 minutes into the match, Curicó-Unido's Román Hoefler sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Saturnino Birila narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Universidad Catolica's Saturnino Birila proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 47th minute of the match, managed to save Universidad Catolica from getting a goal against them. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 4-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Codruț Paraschivescu to strike the kick off in the second half. 51 minutes into the game, Juan Raúl Berguecio recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Julio Tinoco. Saturnino Birila was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Román Hoefler struck a weak shot in the 71st minute. Saturnino Birila didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Curicó-Unido. Marcel Linhares took the ball and in the 78 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Saturnino Birila. Saturnino Birila dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 7-1. Curicó-Unido walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
