Rodrigo Matorin started the match with the kick off. Rodolfo Simão came out of the goal in the 3rd minute to try and stop a shot by Esmeraldas's Chico Ribeiro. But to his dismay, Chico Ribeiro quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. In the 14th match minute, Engenheiros Químicos PE was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Agnaldo Montenegro to maneuver through the defense. In the 15th minute of the match Luís Fabiano Figueiredo shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Rodolfo Simão showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. 19 minutes into the match, Engenheiros Químicos PE's goal looked a bit too open when Rodrigo Matorin came free, but Rodolfo Simão reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Rodrigo Matorin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rodolfo Simão made a fantastic save in the 28th minute, when Chico Ribeiro sent off a good shot on target. Agnaldo Montenegro hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. Christian de Castro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rodolfo Simão having to interfere. Engenheiros Químicos PE's Rodolfo Simão played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rodrigo Matorin in the 37th minute of play. With an all-out effort, Esmeraldas's Rodolfo Simão threw himself towards the right post 41 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Rodrigo Matorin, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Rodrigo Matorin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 48th minute Rodrigo Matorin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rodolfo Simão saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Agnaldo Montenegro was the one to do the kick off. Chico Ribeiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Rodolfo Simão tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Rodrigo Matorin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rodrigo Matorin in the 62nd minute of play forced Engenheiros Químicos PE's goalkeeper Rodolfo Simão to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 68th minute, Chico Ribeiro managed to get in a good position for a shot. Esmeraldas's supporters rose to their feet, but Chico Ribeiro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rodolfo Simão breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 71 minutes into the match, Chico Ribeiro had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Rodolfo Simão. Engenheiros Químicos PE's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Chico Ribeiro was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. 74 minutes into the game, Esmeraldas's Rodrigo Matorin nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Rodolfo Simão made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-0. Agnaldo Montenegro kicked well hit freekick during the 78th minute of the match. Rodrigo Matorin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 88 minutes into the match, Engenheiros Químicos PE's goal looked a bit too open when Chico Ribeiro came free, but Rodolfo Simão reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Esmeraldas booed when Engenheiros Químicos PE was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Agnaldo Montenegro didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rodolfo Simão came out of the goal in the 97th minute to try and stop a shot by Esmeraldas's Chico Ribeiro. But to his dismay, Chico Ribeiro quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0.
