With a little luck, AS Novelli's Sydney Bastos got control of the ball when Sidney Vaz tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Zacarias Braga came up free with the goalie in the 8th minute, the AS Novelli fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Zacarias Braga couldn't finish the play. Rodolfo Fernandes scored 0-1 in the 10th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Hudson Berger, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Epigua SS's Hudson Berger played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rodolfo Fernandes in the 14th minute of play. When Adalberto Velasco fell near the penalty area in the 16th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored AS Novelli's protests and gave Adalberto Velasco a yellow card for diving instead. In the 16th minute, Adalberto Velasco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Hudson Berger took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Zacarias Braga, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of AS Novelli booed when Epigua SS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jorge Cordeiro didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Epigua SS players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. AS Novelli were winning 1-2.

The wind increased when Silas Faria made the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute Sidney Vaz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sydney Bastos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 54th minute, AS Novelli's Fernando Arce seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Fernando Arce the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of AS Novelli protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Fernando Arce had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 54th match minute, AS Novelli was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fernando Arce to maneuver through the defense. The referee ignored Epigua SS's protests and gave Dedé Valadares a yellow card for diving instead. Dedé Valadares hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. Hudson Berger was a little too slow when Chico Reis got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 80th minute. The score was now 1-4. Rodolfo Fernandes was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 86th minute. AS Novelli's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Chico Reis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hudson Berger having to interfere. Hudson Berger made a fantastic save in the 93rd minute, when Chico Reis sent off a good shot on target. AS Novelli's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
